They also claim that over 4 times the number of people who stay beyond a month do so for PVE than for PVP. And actually they claimed people in a solitary playstyle quit. People who played PVE and interacted with others while doing so were not in that group. You can keep misrepresenting what their last fanfest presentation stated, but it won't make it truth.

I will never understand why people think this way. Of course it will have an affect on you in some way, EVE isn't jsut a game, it's an interconnected society, EVERYTHING everyone does affects someone in some way.

This 'awox button' will mean more people will join play corps. Some of those corps will be good experiences, most of them will be bad experiences which could quite possibly accelerate a 'new players' decision to quit.

Some of those corps will be on the up and up, others will simply be 'new player grist mills' for established players to make isk off of instead of having to rat/mission/explore themselves (because the new players won't know any better). Hello "Renting" in high sec, because this change ends up creating the same meta-condition in high sec that lead to vast swaths of null becoming good for nothing but renting.

Those corps will have lower taxes than the npc corps (npc corp taxes are ISK SINKS), meaning more isk in circulation in the game after this change happens. Congratulations, the isk in your wallet is now worth less than it was before because less isk being sunk means devaluation of currently existing isk.

And on and on and on.

It's the new kid in town which just got released for early access. It means nothing in the grand scheme of things unless it stays that way for a long time.

No it should not if you look at the size of it's playerbase. CS, LOL and WoW are all heaps and bound ahead on those metrics.

Elite:D has 300k players, or that seems to be the estimate on their forums. So my sources aren't all that exact.

However, Elite:D isn't even a game, it's barely the beginning of one; you can undock, fly around in space, and do rudimentary mining, hauling stuff around, and some PVP. Really, its set of features would fit on a floppy disk, compared to EVE's 20GB of complexity.

And they have 300k players.

I would guess most of them play in Solo mode, to avoid "PVP", which at the moment is griefer paradise because the combat does not have enough features to support other kinds of PVP (you can't fleet up, you can't even chat with anyone who's not in target range, there are no features basically).

Be proud of EVE's 10 years, but it didn't survive because of your "different breed of gamer" efforts, it survived because of CCP's efforts to keep the game going, patch it, and evolve it. And after 10 years it still has 500k players, when a non-game like Elite:D manages to get 300k in the first month.

There's nothing stopping someone from playing both games, too, and many people do. There are names I recognize from here in Elite:D, and a serious hatred of Goons, which could only come from players of this game.

Ah, this ticks me off so much that they're implementing this.

To put it simply, it shouldn't be happening. But I'm not one to ignore a new challenge. The tactics will change, the art will continue, and the 'problem' will be overcome. My only asking is that CCP DOES NOT MAKE THIS DEFAULT for all new Corps. Let them find the button on their own. And when they do? Charge them 10% as has been mentioned far, far earlier in this thread.


Here's my personal view on Highsec Safaris.

Hunters, like myself, albeit this is obviously an alt, are important people. Not because we own some massive part of the game or control an empire or anything of the sort, but because of the content we create for the game itself. We come across botters, bad players, good players, new players, vets, everything. We keep the wheel turning in Highsec and even get to remove some of the more 'unsavory' players while we're at it. (I.E Botters and RMT Buyers [By using up their wealth each time we kill them.])

Is this something that CCP can do themselves? Sure, and they do do it. But we help, and we like helping, strange as it is. We get our kicks from the tears and the rants here and there, and pad our KBs with a nice little spec and hopefully get a nice Medal before we part ways with our target corp. It's the way we play the game, it's the thrill of the hunt going after a ship that costs multi-billions with just a little investment on our part.

It takes time, it takes patience, and it takes enthusiasm.

The Hunt for Hi-Sec Marks will go on, but this chapter is seeing a darker turn. I'm hopeful to see the emergent gameplay that results from this new 'rule' in New Eden, but I'm concerned to the potential loss of other enthusiastic souls such as we. We'll have to see.
